The idea behind FRANCESCA HOBBS arose when our founder herself was searching for 14 karat Solid Gold pieces, of which would not irritate her new piercings, but were affordable and delicate.

Trawling through the internet, most of the jewellery she found was either Gold Plated or Gold Vermeil, a material that is typically brass or silver covered with a layer of Gold, or solid 9 Karat (composition of only 37.5% Gold). These composition types typically come with care guidelines to prevent them from oxidising or corroding (essentially over time turning the jewellery green) – such as the need to remove your jewellery when you shower, bathe or exercise, swim in the sea or chlorinated pools, and avoid spraying perfume, creams or other liquids directly onto the jewellery. They also have a likely chance of causing irritation due to their low solid gold percentage.

At FRANCESCA HOBBS we wanted to create 14 Karat Solid Gold pieces without the care hassle or irritation 9 Karat or Gold Plated / Vermeil came with as described above. The only thing we ask is that you may like to polish your jewellery from time to time with a cleaning cloth, to keep the pieces looking like new again.

We use 6A (AAAAAA) grade Cubic Zirconia stones in all of our jewellery. This is the highest possible grade Cubic Zirconia you will find on the market (other sellers tend to use 3A – AAA as standard).

The 6A grade is a strong contender to a real diamond in terms of colour, clarity and flawlessness.

Sustainability

At Francesca Hobbs, we are conscious of our environmental footprint and wanted to do our bit in terms of sustainability.

We exclusively use recycled 14K Gold for our jewellery and 6A Cubic Zirconia stones.

Diamond mining is terrible for the ecosystems around the world, and cubic zirconia is a much better alternative. CZ has a smaller carbon footprint and doesn’t not contribute to deforestation or negative ecosystem impacts.

Our jewellery boxes are produced in Denmark, which ensures eco-friendly production. Our Postal Boxes are FSC certified which guarantees that all materials come from an FSC forest. This means that no more wood is cut down than the forest can reproduce.
